Workshops, classes, and blogs

Photographic Center Northwest - Each quarter PCNW offers analog and digital classes, both in-person and online, and certificate programs for adults and teens. Classes are limited to 8-12 students so register early if you are interested. PCNW is located in the heart of the Seattle’s Capitol Hill neighborhood in a renovated 1920’s ambulance building.  

Rocky Mountain School of Photography - RMSP is located in Missoula, Montana. Their extensive curriculum offers professional and summer -intensive courses, as well as short one- to two-day classes and online courses. Pre-COVID, many weekend classes were held in various west coast cities including Seattle. RMSP recently began to offer private instruction held at their school in Missoula or online using Zoom.

Creative Live Webinars - CL’s home office is in Seattle, and they offer hundreds of online photo and video classes including photography fundamentals, post processing, portraiture and the art of wildlife photography. Their diverse group of instructors includes Art Wolfe. In addition to photo & video courses, CL offers four additional categories: art & design, money & life, music & audio, and craft & maker.

DPReview - Digital Photography Review is an extensive education website with technique articles, advice reviews, You Tube tutorials, ongoing challenges, and equipment buying guides.

The Luminous Landscape - Established in 2001, The Luminous Landscape is a photographer’s knowledge resource and includes workshops, tutorials, and technique articles.

B&H How To Videos - B&H website has an extensive selection of photography books and tutorials, as well as sturdy CheatSheets, educational articles and videos.

 

Bill Ray Photo Classes - Bill Ray’s Images Facebook website offers photography and post-processing classes, workshops, Milky Way field shoots, and coaching to non-professional photographers.

Kate Hailey - Kate Hailey is a Seattle-based professional photographer, educator, and world traveler. See her website for current workshops, the very popular local photowalks, and events. Kate Hailey also offers mentoring or one-on-one training either in person or through online platforms.

Ian Plant - Check the Ian Plant website for the current workshop schedule and the free ebook, 20 Essential Tips for Taking Better Photos. Ian Plant is a world traveler, and the founder of Shuttermonkeys, a community of creative photographers connecting enthusiasts with top professionals.

Ken Rockwell - This website offers educational books, how-to photography articles, and tutorial videos. The workshops web page describes Ken Rockwell ‘s photo tours as well as Dan Ballard’s and Steve Cirone’s.

Dave Morrow - Dave Morrow produces video and written guides including ten free photography guide PDFs focusing on landscape and night sky photography. He also offers workshops and writes a blog.

Stuck In Customs - Trey Ratcliff creates this travel focused website which includes tutorials, workshops, books, camera and software reviews. Trey’s recent world travel sites include Tokyo, Paris and Marrakesh.

Tim Grey - Tim Grey offers workshops, online courses, a podcast, and his Greylearning blog tips for optimizing photography and workflow.

Charles Needle - Charles Needle offers online educational opportunities and many workshops. For example, Fall Color or Macro Photography in Georgia, and Holland’s Tulips and Monet’s Garden in France. Needle’s book, Impressionistic Photography, can be ordered on this website.

Nic Stover Photography- Nic Stover leads a wide selection of workshops, online webinars, group classes along with private instruction.  His blog includes many photography how-to articles and photography gear recommendations.
